The Smith-Green Community Schools board met Jan. 6 for its organizational and regular meeting and completed the customary elections and appointments for 2026 while declining a proposed increase in board compensation.
During the organizational portion, the board opened nominations for president and other officer roles and heard motions to appoint members to standing committees and district entities. The board approved the annual board member code of ethics and moved forward appointments for individuals authorized to sign corporate and extracurricular checks (the transcript names Mir and a meeting speaker as signatories). The meeting record shows the board approved the district’s 2026 meeting calendar, generally set for third-Monday meetings.
A proposed raise to board compensation that would have set an annual amount of $4,400 per board member was debated. One board member moved "to deny the approval of the raise" and the motion was seconded; the board voted to keep the current annual compensation at $2,000.
The board also voted to retain legal services from Mr. Tim as corporation counsel and approved the district’s legal newspapers (named in the transcript as the Albian and News) for required public notices. Appointments to the Smith-Green Multi School Building Corporation were announced on the record (the transcript identifies Mr. Fleetwood as president and Mr. Marot in another role), and Title IX coordinators for 2026 were named as Mr. G and Mrs. Cook.
Committee assignments were reviewed and adjusted; the record notes Emily and Casey moved onto the strategic planning committee. The board approved a consent agenda that included routine items; financial statements for the month were not yet available.
The board adjourned the organizational portion and moved into the board of finance meeting later in the agenda.
The meeting record does not include a roll-call tally for most motions, and some nominations and officer outcomes are recorded without full names or final tallies in the transcript.
