Silver Lake says community center fundraising met goal; pre-bid work to start despite USDA delay

Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley told the Silver Lake Town Council on Feb. 11 that the town’s community center fundraising campaign met its Patronicity goal and that the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) has approved a $1-for-$1 matching grant to support the project. Tonya said the town has also submitted a USDA application but that the federal government has not yet released its grant and loan budget; she said USDA money could be delayed up to a year.
The update said consultants Hoch & Associates, Shannon McLeod and Baker Tilly are helping finalize bid documents. Tonya told the council the town plans to begin pre-bid meetings in March and will proceed with a phased construction approach if initial bids exceed available funds. She said the town believes it can build a “nice, spacious” center with funds on hand even without USDA support.
The council has established a dedicated Silver Lake Community Center Fund at the Kosciusko County Community Foundation to accept donations; Tonya said gifts may also be mailed to the Town of Silver Lake Community Center Fund, and that all donations will be used for construction, community resources and service implementation. The town will continue to monitor USDA timelines and adjust bidding and phasing plans if necessary.
The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for March 11, 2026, when members expect to receive updates on bid documents and scheduling.
