South Whitley council approves routine finance items; clerk urges utility rate study

At the Aug. 13 meeting, the South Whitley Town Council approved routine financial items and heard administrative reports from Clerk-Treasurer Alyssa Knepple.
The council accepted the minutes from the July 23 regular meeting and approved May and June 2024 bank reconciliations. The council approved accounts payable vouchers (APVs) totaling $599,623.98. It also approved payroll for the weeks ending July 29 ($9,793.76), Aug. 5 ($10,277.45) and Aug. 12 ($10,869.35). Each motion was moved by Vice President Brock Waterson and seconded by Council President Randy Cokl; recorded votes were 2-0.
Knepple reported the town has purchased a new sign for the clerk’s office to help residents find the correct location to open utility accounts; installation is expected in October. She also noted that after preparing the 2025 budget she recommends a utility rate study if the council wants to continue funding larger town improvement projects and said she has contacted Baker Tilly, which performed the last rate study, and is awaiting a response.
