Board approves wide personnel slate, handbooks and bank-signer updates

The Southwestern Schools board approved a set of routine but extensive personnel and administrative items, including retirements, resignations, new hires, handbook approvals and bank account signer changes.
The personnel slate included a retirement (elementary teacher Julie Shepard), resignations (library aide Ashley Stoner, elementary teachers Jessica Chitwood and Bella Becker, and director Alex Brandsteader) and multiple new employments across grade levels and functions: teachers (Renee Cox, Ashton Good, Sabra Gford, Peyton Osteller), library aid Jenny Miller, maternity-leave staffing (Macy Marshall), food-service staff, a new band director (Josiah, transcript spelling uncertain), choir teacher Jacqueline Cwell, and many transportation drivers and monitors. The board moved and approved the slate by voice vote.
The board also approved the classified employee handbook and the 2024–25 preschool parent handbook after limited discussion about floating holidays and calendar notes (June 30 closure entry). Laura presented updates to bank account signers for three district accounts and the board approved motion language to reflect the requested signer changes in the minutes; staff will follow up with a resolution for the bank.
Several conference and professional-development requests were approved, and the board accepted a resignation from Hannah Schaefer, granted maternity leave for Bailey Benzer (Aug. 5–Oct. 4), and approved hiring three instructional mentors (Tracy Tandy, Tracy Steen, Cindy World) funded through Title II to support new teachers.
