South School Board approves three routine budget resolutions and routine business

At its February meeting the South School Board approved three budget-year resolutions granting temporary fund transfers, authority to pay claims between meetings, and year-end transfers; it also approved donations, personnel hires and membership agreements.
The South School Board met in February and approved a set of routine financial and operational items, including three budget resolutions to manage cash flow and claims during the fiscal year.
Laura, speaking during the business portion of the meeting, explained that resolution 2025-08 authorizes borrowing or transferring between funds for short-term cash-flow needs with the requirement that transferred funds be returned within six months or by year-end. Resolution 2025-09 permits the district to prepay claims such as payroll and utilities that come due between board meetings. Resolution 2025-10 authorizes year-end transfers to ensure no fund shows a negative balance at the close of the budget year. Each resolution was moved, seconded and approved on a roll-call vote.
The board also accepted three charitable gifts: a $10,000 donation from Orion New Generations for Southwestern athletics, $1,000 from Greg Sanders of Toyota of Madison for student admissions, and a $50 memorial donation from the Jefferson County 4-H Club for Southwestern FFA. A motion to accept the donations passed. The board approved multiple personnel actions including hires for before- and after-school care (Maddie and Morgan Kemp), an afterschool care hire (Ginger Roberts), a maternity-leave replacement (Hannah Garcini) and a slate of extra-curricular coaching positions; retirements from Roger Vickers (effective May 30) and Carrie Schaefer (end of 2024-25 school year) were noted.
Other routine items carried by motion included participation in the Wilson Education Center membership agreement for 2025-26, which the board said supports commodity bidding for items such as milk and bread.
The board said these approvals are standard parts of the district's fiscal-year opening and budgeting process and that staff will report details of usage and transfers in upcoming financial reports.
