Wayne County official presents updated DNR-model flood-plain ordinance; public hearing set for March 10

Steve Higanbotham of Wayne County presented an updated flood-plain ordinance to the Town of Spring Grove at its Feb. 10 meeting, saying the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) supplied the model language and that the draft matches Wayne County’s existing ordinance except for local names. The board scheduled a public hearing on the ordinance for its next regular meeting on March 10, and Higanbotham said he will advertise the ordinance in advance of that hearing.
Higanbotham also noted that the flood-plain map that accompanies the draft ordinance appears to show boundary lines that differ slightly from the town’s zoning map. He said he will review the maps to determine the cause of the discrepancy and report back at the March 10 meeting. No formal action to adopt the ordinance took place at the Feb. 10 meeting.
Clerk-Treasurer Jenney Holthouse confirmed the administrative steps: advertisement of the ordinance and placement of the item on the March 10 agenda for a public hearing. The presentation did not include a vote or final adoption; the board will take public comment and any formal action at the scheduled hearing.
