Spring Grove board reviews opioid settlement funds, sign permit, storage and local road and utility repairs

During its Oct. 14 meeting the Town of Spring Grove board handled several routine but consequential items.
Clerk‑Treasurer Jenney Holthouse said Wayne County has moved into a second round of awarding opioid settlement grants and that Spring Grove has $707.81 in restricted opioid settlement funds that must be spent on approved uses. Holthouse said she will send board members the county process and a request she received from a local organization. Planning Commissioner Jeff Holthouse suggested the board consider awarding the restricted funds to local recovery organizations such as Bridges for Life or The Link.
Attorney AJ Sickmann reported receipt of a sign permit request from A‑Plus Signs for a 15.29‑square‑foot, non‑illuminated wall sign for Richmond Endodontics; Sickmann said he will check the proposal against Spring Grove’s signage ordinances. Jenney Holthouse reported a former storage unit, last paid for in August 2020, had been disposed of; she will obtain a new storage unit.
Robert Erbse reported that a tree fell on the road to the Heights and damaged two streetlights; he performed preliminary cleanup and contacted RP&L for repairs. Jeff Holthouse said he will inspect the site to determine whether further cleanup is required. Lisa VanDevender reported that the water company left road areas in the Heights unsettled; the board agreed to allow more time for settling before following up with the company.
With no further business, Annemarie Chasteen moved to adjourn and Lisa VanDevender seconded; the motion carried unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
