The Senior Citizens Commission heard June 9 that the senior center is facing a staffing shortage for transit drivers that threatens program transportation.
Carrie Concatelli, director of Senior and Social Services, told the commission the center is "really struggling to find drivers," and said the job description will be posted on the town website. She added that she has reached out to local and surrounding towns' bus companies in hopes of finding a driver or contractor to provide service.
The report came during the municipal agent section of the agenda at the commission's regular meeting at the Senior Center. Concatelli framed the outreach as twofold: a public job posting to attract applicants and direct contact with nearby bus operators to identify immediate options.
Commissioners did not vote on a staffing plan at the meeting. Chair Paula Friez noted the importance of maintaining transportation to support programs that have shown good attendance but gave no timeline for hire. The commission expects staff to follow up on the job posting and vendor outreach in coming weeks.
The commission's next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026.
