The Union City Borough Council voted unanimously Aug. 13 to hire Mansfield to repair a sinkhole and replace approximately 10 feet of damaged pipe at Municipal Lot #1.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips described a failed 24‑inch clay tile and a sinkhole; engineers recommended replacing the clay tile through the sinkhole, reconnecting pipes, installing a larger catch basin adjacent to the sinkhole and replacing about 10 feet of pipe. Insight consultant Bob Carpenter and Engineer Tim Wells provided recommendations on lining and repair sequencing.
Mansfield submitted a $22,295 estimate; McLallen Construction submitted $23,450. Both bids required the borough to provide a truck during the project. Councilor Steadman moved to accept Mansfield’s estimate and Councilor Osborn seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The council did not record a separate funding source in the minutes; the motion authorized the work and noted the borough’s cooperation in providing equipment.
