Sanford parks staff report splash pad turnout, summer concert series and park-improvement plans

Sanford parks staff told the advisory committee on May 19 that the Splash Pad opened with strong attendance and that multiple summer events and park improvements are planned.
Caroline Jeffries, Clerk, reported that roughly 1,200 people attended the Splash Pad opening over the past weekend. She said the department will run extended hours this season and has installed a new valve intended to prevent daytime interruptions to the Splash Pad.
Jeffries also said the department has scheduled 16 concerts between May 29 and Sept. 4, noting most performers will be local artists. Staff are seeking volunteers for a dunking booth at an upcoming event.
As part of master-plan work, Jeffries said parks staff will post more frequently on social media to promote health and wellness and plan weekend activities at Maple Avenue Park. Planned improvements for Carr Creek Park include a picnic shelter, a basketball goal, new playground equipment and a possible walking loop; work on additional projects will begin after paperwork is completed on Walter McNeil Jr. Park.
No new funding amounts or firm timelines were provided in the minutes. The committee left direction focused on completing paperwork and continuing outreach and coordination for projects and events.
