Windham Raymond School District board members recognized the Windham Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team at their June 17 meeting for advancing to World Finals and representing the district.
Students who identified themselves as Mayo, Bren Johnson and Charlie Johnson described the World Finals experience, including long‑term and spontaneous problem rounds, a creativity festival and social events such as pin trading. Bren Johnson said the team “ranked 18th out of 63 teams” and that meeting competitors from other countries and participating in spontaneous challenges were highlights. A student described the team’s long‑term performance as an “epic quest” themed on finding Wi‑Fi and noted judges appreciated the humor and creativity.
A staff presenter who coaches the elementary program said the district organized Odyssey competitions at the primary school level and encouraged continued participation, noting nearly 99 children registered in the program last year. The coach emphasized the growth of the local program and said they will continue supporting the team as long as the majority of members remain together.
Board members congratulated the students for their work and thanked local businesses and district staff for enabling the trip. The district indicated it hopes to expand the program and make the experience available to more students.
