Board renews agreement to access special-education services through cooperative

The Lake Station School Board on June 15 approved Resolution 2025-2026 Number 10, a routine annual renewal that allows the district to access services from the Indiana Department of Education and private educational agencies through the Northern Indiana Special Education Cooperative (NICEC) when a student's needs exceed what the district can provide.
Superintendent Dr. Krippelover described the resolution as an annual housekeeping item that maintains district membership in the cooperative, enabling the board and administration to place students in specialized programs when necessary (for example, schools serving students who are hearing- or visually-impaired). He said the district has seldom used residential placements but relies on cooperative services for specialized instructional staff and programs.
The resolution was presented for approval as the second item under new business; a motion to approve carried on a unanimous vote of board members present.
The board also received a first reading of Volume 38, Number 2 of school board policy revisions and new policies; no action was taken on policies at this meeting and they will be brought back for consideration at the July meeting.
