Marlborough fire department reports: new engine in service; HT517 to be sold; training pad and inspection plans discussed

Fire department leaders gave several operational updates at the April 27 meeting of the Marlborough Fire Commission.
Assistant Chief Todd Cohen presented a proposal for a conex box location at Fire Station 2 to support a training pad. Commissioners discussed placement and record-keeping; Chair Alan Laliberte asked that FOI requests be shared with Gail Scranton, the fire chief (abbreviation noted in the minutes), the Fire Marshal and commissioners so requests are not missed.
Chief Kevin Asklar reported that a newly acquired engine is now in service and "running great." He said HT517 will be stored outside Public Works while the town accepts bids, with bidding conducted through the town clerk’s office for public purchase. Chief Asklar also said FS1’s wall requires a walk-through with an engineer to assess needed repairs.
Fire Marshal Joe Asklar reported no major fires this month and said two fire-prevention classes at the Congregational Church went well. The minutes record that he took the open burning test and scored 96 percent. He noted that the town manager appoints the Open Burn Official, that Gail Scranton provided a quote for inspection forms, and he asked for direction on handling illegal burning; Chair Laliberte provided guidance. He also said keys and the FS2 office would be ready by the end of the week and that a State Fire Marshal meeting was scheduled for the following morning at Austin Drive.
The commission recessed into executive session at 19:15 to conduct Fire Marshal evaluations and adjourned the executive session at 19:32.
