Residents and council members pressed for more street repair and clearer crosswalk striping at the El Rio/Del Norte Municipal Advisory Council meeting on Feb. 19.
During public comment, a resident urged the county to allocate more funding specifically for El Rio streets. In council member remarks, Lorane Bailon asked the Public Works Agency to address crosswalk striping near Rio Plaza School, saying multiple striping layers had been applied and the walk markings are no longer visible. Bailon also suggested American Water be asked to present to the council about nearby work. Julie Hupp asked whether the Supervisor’s office could contact Caltrans to fill potholes on Vineyard near ongoing construction.
The council approved the Jan. 15 meeting minutes on a motion by Aaron Wedemeyer, seconded by David Souza; the motion was recorded as unanimously approved. Michael Durazo of Supervisor Kelly Long’s Office announced a Premier America Credit Union scholarship opportunity and distributed flyers about free tax-preparation help through a program connected to the IRS and United Way. Library staff and community groups promoted upcoming events including a Kids Farmers Market on Feb. 27 and a Mental Health Fair at Rio Plaza.
The council set its next meeting for March 19 at Nyeland Acres Community Center and listed a planned presentation by the Public Works Agency on the Nyeland Acres Resurfacing Project. No formal vote or funding appropriation for street repairs occurred at the Feb. 19 meeting; members requested follow‑up from staff and external agencies.
