Millersburg — The town council voted March 25 to hire a street sweeping service to clean Washington Street and the highway overpass ahead of Farmer's Day, and discussed storm damage to a fence behind the maintenance building.
Maintenance lead Corey Oberlin recommended contracting a sweeper in spring to clear sand and debris that are filling drainage. Council President Dean Smith moved to approve the work at an estimated cost of about $1,100; Dana Rutter and Joni Miller seconded and the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
Corey said the sweep would focus on Washington Street and the overpass and that he planned to run the leaf vacuum the following week as weather permits.
Separately, a tree fell during a storm and smashed a section of fence. The downed tree lies partly on town property and partly on neighbor Simar's property. Corey reported a cleanup quote and said Simar disputed the price to remove debris. The council opted to wait one week to see if the neighbor will agree to a shared cost or other resolution before pursuing insurance or repair.
Why it matters: The sweeping addresses immediate public-right-of-way appearance and drainage issues; the fence situation raises a potential insurance question and affects access to maintenance areas.
The council approved the sweeper expense by voice vote and took no formal action on the fence at this meeting.
