Belmont notified of $2 million Northern Borders grant for Route 140 sewer force main

Belmont Select Board members were informed that the town’s application to the Northern Borders Regional Commission was approved for a $2 million grant to support construction of the Route 140 sewer force main.
Staff told the board the award was the maximum grant amount available and that the project is planned in phases. The grant was submitted on the town’s behalf and — as staff explained in the meeting — does not require voter approval because it is state-managed funding applied on the town’s behalf. The first phase will target the most urgent section from the pump station outward and will reduce the town’s borrowing needs for the initial construction stage, officials said.
Staff thanked grant writers and municipal partners for successful submission and said engineering and phasing details will be refined in upcoming project planning steps. The board received the update as informational; no binding vote was required.
