Commission approves several personnel actions, consolidates tax parcels and sets rezoning hearing dates

The Monongalia County Commission on June 17 approved several personnel actions, including hiring Owen Hamilton as a part‑time park maintenance employee at $12.50 per hour and approving a full‑time sheriff’s department appointment with a July 16, 2026 start date and benefits eligibility on Aug. 1, 2026. The commission denied a proposed part‑time appointment that staff said posed audit and bookkeeping risks when a full‑time conversion was anticipated.
The commission also reinstated the start date for Deputy Alexander Williams to July 16, 2026, with benefits effective Aug. 1, after staff reported an address/system issue that had delayed processing.
On land‑use and scheduling matters, the commission approved a petition to consolidate two tax parcels in Clay District pursuant to West Virginia Code 11‑4‑17. Commissioners also canceled the July 22, 2026 regularly scheduled meeting and rescheduled the July 29 meeting to July 28, 2026.
The commission set first and second reading and public hearing dates for a proposed map amendment to the West Front Planning District for multiple parcels on West Run Road. Andrew Gaspary, Monongalia County director of planning, told commissioners that recent state legislative language created timing ambiguities that require overlapping hearing timelines to preserve the county’s ability to meet the 60‑day review windows.
Motions on the personnel items, parcel consolidation and meeting schedule passed by voice vote with the two commissioners present voting in favor. Staff will complete routine onboarding and administrative steps for hires and follow standard hearing‑advertisement procedures for the rezoning schedule.
