Wymore council accepts EMS resignation, adds two firefighters and reviews police chief contract

The Wymore City Council on July 19 accepted the resignation of Jorden Schachtschabel from Wymore EMS, approved two new fire department members and reviewed a contract for the city’s police chief candidate.

Councilperson Max Allen moved, and Councilperson Sue Sapp seconded, a motion to accept the resignation of Jorden Schachtschabel from Wymore EMS; the motion carried 4-0. The council then considered two applications for new members of the Wymore Fire Department. Mark presented the applications, and a motion by Max Allen, seconded by Sue Sapp, approved Bryan Heckman and Saul Garcia as new fire department members by unanimous vote.

City staff also circulated the current personnel handbook for review. Janet, a staff member, provided copies and notes related to insurance benefit changes from the prior year; council members will review the materials and return the topic to the next agenda for any necessary updates.

On personnel for the police department, City Attorney Andy Carothers provided a copy of the proposed contract for the city’s police chief candidate. Council members reviewed the document and asked for a final cross-check against the police handbook. Mark and Andy will meet to reconcile any differences before Mayor Meints presents the contract to the candidate. "If the Chief candidate is appointed and accepts the position, he will likely be able to take the management class offered at the NLETC in October," Mark said.
