Wymore council green-lights application for CDBG street grant, sets one-year priorities

The Wymore City Council voted July 19 to pursue a Community Development Block Grant to support upcoming street projects and agreed on priorities for the city’s one-year street plan.

Mayor Colin Meints and the council directed staff to finalize the one-year plan and add it to the next meeting’s agenda after hearing a presentation from Tim, a city staff member, on the prior one- and six-year plans and a recommended list of future projects. "The council gave their suggestion for which streets should be a priority for the next 1-year plan," Tim told the council, and members discussed both priorities and the possibility of applying for another CDBG street grant.

A motion by Councilperson Max Allen, seconded by Councilperson Neil Van Boening, authorized staff to move forward with the CDBG application and allowed the mayor and clerk to sign all necessary documents. The motion carried unanimously.

The council also received a separate update on downtown infrastructure: Tim reported that new streetlights for the downtown project have arrived and been inspected, and he said installation is expected to begin next week. Mayor Meints and council members expressed appreciation for the downtown improvements.

Why it matters: Winning a CDBG street grant would provide state or federal funding to help pay for priority street repairs, potentially accelerating projects the council identified for the coming year. The council did not finalize the one-year plan at this meeting; members instructed staff to return a detailed plan and related documents for approval at the next meeting.
