The Wymore City Council on June 21 approved a conditional arrangement allowing the Wymore Country Club to use the city water supply for irrigation after the city purchases a new water meter and the club installs an approved backflow apparatus.
Larry Schmidt, representing the Country Club, requested placement on the agenda and asked for the irrigation system to be run on city water. No club representatives were present at the meeting. Council discussion focused on whether the expected high usage would affect the city’s water supply; council members indicated that, at present, the water supply would not be adversely affected.
Council’s motion specified that the Country Club would be responsible for providing a proper backflow apparatus and that the club’s use of city water is not guaranteed: it can be limited or discontinued if necessary due to water restrictions. The motion passed unanimously, 4-0.
The council did not specify a meter model, meter cost, or fee structure in the meeting record; city staff are to purchase the new meter before the Country Club’s irrigation is connected. Any future restrictions on usage would be implemented if water conditions require them.
Other items at the meeting included updates on downtown street and lighting work and the upcoming review of the Senior Diners lease at a future meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
