The Washington County Board of Commissioners adopted two proclamations on June 18: one recognizing May 2026 as Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month and another designating May 7, 2026 as Teen Mental Health Awareness Day.
The proclamations cited the UPMC Washington Teen Outreach Program’s founding in 1988 and recent initiatives including Real Talk for Teens curriculum and a five‑part Road to Better Mental Health Education launched in 2024. Amy (representing the Teen Outreach center) described the program’s teen‑parenting and mentorship work and reported program graduation rates of “85 to 100%,” saying the program helps young parents stay in school.
Several teen‑center staff and youth also described in‑school programs, mental‑health first‑aid training and school pantry and outreach work. Commissioners thanked participants and approved both proclamations by roll call.
