Commissioners approve $250,000 in Act 13 funds for North Franklin Township stormwater, roadway and bridge‑adjacent repairs

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on June 18 approved issuing $250,000 from Act 13 funds to North Franklin Township to address stormwater backup caused by concrete bridge supports in Chartiers Creek, and to fund roadway repairs and stormwater controls on the access road near the New Crown Center Mall.
Chief Clerk presented the revised agenda item and the board voted to approve the issuance. During agenda comment the county solicitor clarified permissible uses of Act 13 funds, saying it “seemed to imply that the 250 was going to be used to demolish the bridge, and that’s not a permitted use of Act 13 funds.” He added that funding can be applied to roadway upgrades, repairs and stormwater remediation tied to the concrete pillars that are creating recurring debris and flooding.
The motion to approve the $250,000 issuance was moved and seconded and carried by roll call. Commissioners recorded affirmative votes for the item.
