The Baldwin Park City Council voted June 17 to continue funding its NextGen youth workforce program and to allocate $646,164 in Measure BP funds for special events and city programs in FY 2026–27.
Councilmember Alejandra Avila, who moved both items, described the NextGen program as an opportunity for residents ages 14–24 to gain work experience across city departments and partner employers. "This is a program that gives employment opportunities to our youth ages 14 and 24," Avila said, adding the program has served 477 participants to date and this year drew 72 students from local high schools.
Item 5 passed 5‑0. Avila then presented item 8 requesting $646,164 from Measure BP to fund concerts, parades, the Christmas with the Cops program and other community events; she said such events were specifically listed when voters approved Measure BP. "That's your tax dollars working for the community," Avila said during the presentation. The council approved item 8 by unanimous vote.
During discussion of the Business Improvement District assessment (item 21), councilmembers asked staff to explore whether a projected BID surplus (projected $37,000 by June 30, 2027) could seed a small‑business grant program. Finance Director Rose Tam said she budgets conservatively and that ordinance limits may apply, but staff will review options and return with recommendations.
Council action: both Measure BP funding requests were approved 5‑0. Finance and Parks & Rec staff will process allocations and provide implementation timelines.
