Wymore council approves parallel parking on 7th Street; streetlight installation awaits parts

The Wymore City Council voted unanimously Aug. 2 to change center parking on 7th Street from D to G to a single row of parallel parking. The motion, made by Max Allen and seconded by Neil Van Boening, carried 3-0 after several council members and a downtown business owner discussed the trade-offs between angled and parallel parking.
During the public-comment portion, resident Lori Novotny said business owners were concerned about losing parking spaces. Staff member Tim Sedlacek told the council electricians from WCHE are at the site with five new poles but are waiting for the correct receptacles before the new streetlights can be energized.
Sedlacek explained the restriping will be applied as a continuous center strip from one end of the block to the other rather than individual marked spaces. The council indicated Ordinance 674, which would formalize the parking change, will be placed on the next meeting agenda for formal consideration.
Sedlacek also announced a 'Needs Survey' connected to a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) street-grant qualification; a link will be posted on the city Facebook page and paper copies will be available at the City Office for residents to complete.
The council gave no timetable for the ordinance process beyond adding it to the next agenda, and staff said the streetlights remain pending delivery of the correct electrical receptacles.
