Wymore council keeps levy unchanged, approves payroll items and fundraiser alcohol permit

The Wymore City Council on Sept. 6 voted to keep the city tax levy unchanged for the next fiscal year and approved routine minutes, claims and payroll actions, the council said.
The vote to leave the levy unchanged was approved 4-0 after a motion by Councilperson Max Allen and a second from Councilperson Sue Sapp. The council also approved the minutes of the previous meeting 4-0.
Council considered claims and payroll in a multi-step process. A motion to approve claims and payroll while excluding checks #27379, #27386 and #27390 passed, followed by a separate motion to issue a corrected payroll check for Chief Martinez at the contracted salary amount. The minutes record later roll calls on individual checks: a motion by Neil Van Boening, seconded by Curt Oblinger, approved check #27379 with a 3-0 tally and Max Allen noted as abstaining; a motion by Max Allen, seconded by Curt Oblinger, approved check #27386 with a 3-0 tally and Neil Van Boening noted as abstaining. Erica Morris asked the council for permission to serve alcohol at a fundraiser at the Community Center on Oct. 14. The council approved the request (motion by Max Allen, second by Sue Sapp). The permit as recorded specifies J&M Liquor will provide servers, service hours of 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and that no beer garden will be used.
The council also addressed staffing and training items. Anthony Troxel presented Amanda Jarchow as a candidate for membership in Wymore EMS; Jarchow told the council she works as an EMT in Kansas and would respond locally on nights she is not on hospital duty. The minutes record a motion (Max Allen, second by Sue Sapp) to approve Jarchow as a member; the minutes do not specify the vote outcome. Separately, the council approved (motion by Max Allen, second by Neil Van Boening) travel for Tim to attend Asbestos Inspector Training on Sept. 29 at a cost of $175 (motion carried 4-0).
City Attorney Andy Carothers requested that department heads compile lists of surplus equipment so the city can pursue a Purple Wave auction; that item will be placed on a future agenda. Janet reported on outreach to auditors and was asked to follow up with an auditor who had expressed interest and add the topic to the next meeting agenda. Tim reported he will follow up with Sapp Bros on a fuel contract before the next meeting in hopes of securing a better price.
Chief Martinez informed the council that previously discussed vest issues have been resolved. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
