Wymore council appoints Bobby Martinez as new police chief

Mayor Collin Meints placed Martinez’s name in nomination and the council voted to confirm him; City Attorney Andy Carothers administered the oath of office and the mayor presented Martinez with his badge.
The council also approved a contract with Martinez that specifies a starting salary of $65,000 a year. The contract provides for a raise to $68,000 after Martinez completes a management training course at the Police Academy in October and a further increase to $70,000 after a successful six-month probationary period, with all raises subject to future council approval.
The appointment followed a formal motion by Council Member Max Allen, seconded by Council Member Curt Oblinger; the motion carried 3-0. The city welcomed Chief Martinez and his family to the community.
The council recorded no additional conditions on the appointment. The contract and the scheduled training and step increases were approved as part of the same motion; any future raises will require separate council action.
The council did not set an implementation date beyond the training timeline in the contract. The city clerk will retain the signed contract in the municipal records.
