Selectmen defer action on liquor license for new venue pending planning and permits

The clerk told the Selectmen she had received an on-premise liquor-license application from a business she identified as "Ted's Bridal Clams," which hopes to open in early May and is seeking permission to serve beer, wine and spirits.
Clerk said the previous owner had held beer-and-wine privileges but that the new owners' application adds spirits; because the business has been closed for a period, the clerk said the applicants must complete planning-board approvals, obtain state fire-marshal permits and state health licensing before the Selectmen act. The board agreed to wait until the planning-board process and required state permits are further along before scheduling any local hearing.
The clerk said the board historically only holds a local public hearing for liquor-license applications when there are indicated issues or when a venue is significantly new; in this case the board judged it prudent to allow the planning and permitting process to proceed first.
