Sebago reports two new enrollments, outdoor classroom plans and facility fixes

At its meeting the Sebago School Committee heard short operational updates: two new students have enrolled and facilities work is planned for spring.
Lou reported the district gained two students — one kindergarten and one fourth grader — and said, “We're growing. So, we're at 118.” He also reported a net decrease of one special education placement, noting there are now eight students placed at Lakes Region High School and nine at Lakes Region Middle School.
Lou described plans for an outdoor classroom hardscape project with a local contractor and an estimated cost of $17,000. “So combined to do all the work with the exception of the thin roof … the estimated cost is 17,000,” Lou said; staff said the plan is to complete the work during April break.
Staff also said a heater appropriate for the furnace room will be installed and bathroom ventilation work is scheduled for the coming week to address odor and air movement issues. The superintendent and staff will include updated enrollment and special-education counts in budget planning for the coming fiscal year.
Separately, staff reported holiday activities and outreach: a winter concert at the town hall, a December trip to a Portland Stage performance for grades 2–5, and the district’s Holly Jolly Helper fundraising effort supporting more than 25 children with about $3,500 in assistance.
The committee recorded these informational items for the public record and moved on to scheduled action items.
