District staff told the Toltec School District board that the English language arts curriculum review has reached a finalists stage and that the 60-day public and staff review will conclude next month.
The presenter said the review narrowed options to two vendors: an Amplify program and HMH’s Into Reading/Into Literature. Both curricula are available for stakeholder review online, with feedback forms in English and Spanish. Staff pre-reviewed materials with teachers and plan to continue gathering input; current participation rates for the review instruments were reported at about 60% of the target group.
Officials said they will finalize procurement decisions after the review window closes and that the district may phase purchases across the fiscal year. The board received the update as an informational item; no adoption vote occurred at this meeting.
Questions from board members focused on sample report interpretation and demographic representation in the review responses. The presenter said demographic breakdowns are included in the review reports and offered to research percentile bases and other analytic questions raised by board members.
