Board hears lake maintenance report, drainage updates after heavy rain; resident mold concern raised

The River Ridge board heard updates on lake maintenance, stormwater infrastructure and post-storm repairs at its Aug. 27, 2024 meeting.
Mr. Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes reported that "the lakes appear to be in very good shape," noted preserves and dry-retention maintenance are underway and said crews had removed fallen trees from an FPL ditch and outfall structure ahead of an impending tropical storm. He said repairs to the Lake H1-B nano-bubbler — which lost prime after being turned off — would be completed the next day and that Premier changed service frequency from quarterly to monthly during the rainy season. Mr. Shane Willis said he and Mr. Alex Kurth will present electrical proposals for moving the compressor in the Masters Lake.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs reported MRI’s Pinehurst valley gutter inlet-grate replacement project is about 80% complete and that he will provide a schedule for the asphalt patch. He described storm impacts from Tropical Storm Debbie, saying parts of the community received "almost 8\" of rain in two or three days" while roads are designed for about 5½\" of rain in 24 hours; the system reportedly reached capacity but flowed unobstructed. He recommended adding a drainage connection from a Club property low-lying area to Lake E1-A so runoff bypasses pipes and inlets and drains directly to the lake.
A resident reported standing water coming up through a slab and said they had mold issues in their unit. Mr. Krebs said he does not believe the standing water is the cause because other units did not report similar problems; he asked that Mr. Long comment and requested the item be placed on the next agenda for further follow-up. In public comments, resident Christine Mantilia asked whether fire trucks could use lake water to lower lake levels; Mr. Krebs said that is not typical, could pull plants and fish into trucks, and would require South Florida Water Management District approval.
Operational items included a request from resident Anita Bachragh to bring upright a downed tree at River 9 Catch Basin #134 and review of conservation-area maintenance; Mr. Willis asked for photographs so staff could assess and respond. Resident Larry Fiesel asked for an update on the speed sign project; Mr. Willis said Mr. Long is scheduling training and will report back at the next meeting.
Staff said they would follow up on the drainage, MRI construction details and the complaint about standing water at the next meeting.
