River Ridge residents press board to address Pinehurst drainage; inlet repair estimate remains under review

On July 23, 2024 the River Ridge Community Development District Board of Supervisors heard sustained public complaints about drainage failures near the Pinehurst triangle monument and a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 that reportedly ponds nearly one foot above its drain.
Resident Shari Perkins said the problem persisted a week after a contractor plugged a pipe, reporting that "water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area" and that a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 "appears to be non-functional; ponding is occurring and is nearly 1’ above the drain." Perkins said she would provide photographs and video to CDD staff to document the flooding.
District Engineer John Baker told the board the original problem—water from one system backing up and flowing into another—was addressed when the inlet was plugged, but that "there is no place for the water to go" now and the situation "will likely require additional study." The board directed the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand and asked staff to collect photographic or video evidence to assist with analysis.
Separately, District Manager Chuck Adams presented MRI Construction Estimate #C060-24 for a Type 9 inlet top, priced at $10,692.88, intended to keep debris from blocking the structure. Mr. Adams said an additional proposal is being obtained; the board kept the item on the agenda rather than approving the work at the meeting.
The board also discussed how pipes in the area run between private property, across a golf course and into a ditch that drains to the River Club and ultimately into the Estero River. Resident Ed Nowak asked specifically for the location of the outflow at the northern end of Pinehurst Greens Drive; Mr. Adams clarified the path to the Estero River.
Next steps: Ms. Perkins will provide video and photo evidence to CDD staff; the District Engineer will inspect the site; staff will present findings and any competing cost proposals at a future meeting.
