The Lawis County Board of County Commissioners approved a $750 donation to support a local holiday food and turkey distribution called "Rock the Holidays" after staff relayed a request from Carol Murray.
Carol Murray called the board to ask whether the county could help with holiday distribution efforts; staff recommended a donation in the range of $5 to $750 and reported prior annual donations to similar programs. Commissioner Davis moved to donate $750 to the community program; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members said the amount should be within the current budget and noted the town and local fire department historically contribute to the drive. Staff said it would draft a request/letter and process the donation consistent with county policy.
The donation was approved during the special meeting; the board did not set an ongoing annual commitment but said it could consider future support during the regular budget/workshop process.
Quote: "I think $750," said one commissioner during the motion. The vote was recorded as a voice vote in favor.
