The Richland One School Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday, June 18, 2026, to approve an organizational chart and related restructuring that Dr. Walker presented in executive session.
The motion to approve "the organizational chart with the restructuring as explained and outlined by Dr. Walker" was made by the chair and seconded by Commissioner Wesson. The board, with six members present, approved the motion by voice vote; the chair declared it unanimous.
The item was discussed in executive session under agenda item 4.01 before the board returned to open session to take the formal motion. Commissioner Bishop earlier moved — and Commissioner Clyburn seconded — to enter executive session to consider the organizational chart and restructuring as presented by Dr. Walker; that motion was also approved unanimously.
During final remarks in open session, the chair said the new chart "will be posted on the website in the near future so that everybody can see it," and noted only a "couple tweaks" remained to be reflected on the posted chart. No substantive amendments or conditions to the restructuring were recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
The board began its special meeting at 4:00 p.m. at the Stevenson Administration Building, 1616 Richland Street in Columbia. The chair read a Freedom of Information Act notice at the start of the meeting. The agenda was adopted at the outset after a motion from Commissioner Hersey and a second from Commissioner Bishop.
The chair announced the next regular board meeting will be held June 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Stevenson Administration Building. Without objection, the board adjourned the special meeting.
