MORGANTOWN — At its Aug. 12 meeting, the Morgantown Town Council discussed an LED street‑light conversion and made edits to the town’s Park Ordinance on its first reading.
Council member David Johnson presented options from Duke Energy for converting outdoor fixtures to LED, saying rebate options are available and that conversion "would save the Town money in the long run." The council discussed financing options, including a one‑time payment of $41,116.21 or monthly payment alternatives, and asked Johnson to contact Duke to prepare a contract for the next meeting.
Separately, Park Ordinance 2024‑4 was presented for a first reading. Councilor David Johnson questioned language in Section 11; the council agreed to remove portions of that section and add language clarifying that park users must follow federal and state gun laws. Penny Anderson moved to approve the ordinance on first reading with the edits; the motion passed unanimously. The ordinance will return for subsequent readings and formal adoption.
