Council Member Jeremy Baker moved to approve the purchase; Council Member David Johnson seconded and all members voted in favor. Council President Joe Blevins said the purchase will be funded with cash from the Co-Edit Fund.
Council members discussed plans to remodel the building into a town hall. Kelly Wesly of Susan May Allen Architects presented a proposal priced between $10,000 and $11,800 plus hourly rates for additional services and noted the proposal did not include site inspections. The council flagged a competing $8,000 proposal from Curry & Associates and decided to ask Ric with Curry & Associates to clarify what his proposal includes before selecting an architect.
Town Attorney Lee Robbins was directed to prepare the documents necessary to close on the purchase. The council did not take further formal action on design or renovation funding at the meeting.
The purchase represents the council’s near-term move to acquire municipal office space; council members said they will return to the topic at the next meeting to decide on an architect and any additional steps.
