Redevelopment Authority receives monthly homebuilding report; staff notes ongoing closings and lot transfers

The Redevelopment Authority received and filed its monthly report on homebuilding activity on Sept. 4.
A staff member said Torsen Builders currently has two houses enclosed and sided in the Wilson neighborhood and closed on one last Friday. The staff member reported two additional foundations are dug and poured for the same builder and that Torsen now has 14 lots scheduled to build on after a recent transfer of four scattered lots.
NewGen Homes has five lots and expects to pull permits for its first three houses this month, the staff member said. Staff also said they are drafting a development agreement to support an investor‑funded builder to construct five Uptown lots, but that those arrangements will take longer because of the financing structure.
Authority members praised recent completions, including a Habitat home recently finished on 55th Avenue, and urged staff to continue identifying city lots suitable for acquisition and division into buildable parcels. One committee member said staff should make sure Wilson neighborhood lots are not overlooked as Uptown work expands.
The staff member also reported that, following a recent public meeting, the City has come to terms with a representative of the Danish Brotherhood on the sale of an empty lot that was the site of a fire five years earlier and that the council finance committee approved the purchase the prior night. Staff said block grant funds will be used to acquire the lot and that it could be used as interim open space or a gateway feature.
A motion to receive and file the report passed by voice vote.
