Lake City Council approves housing IGA, emergency ordinance reading, accepts audit; veteran to be buried in November

The Lake City Council on Sept. 16 unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Craighead County to house prisoners and permitted an emergency reading of Ordinance No. 327-24. Councilmember Brenda Hutcheson moved passage of the IGA, seconded by Councilmember Jake Emery; the motion passed 6-0.
The council also approved allowing the city clerk to read Ordinance No. 327-24 by emergency clause after a motion from Councilmember Hutcheson and a second from Councilmember Kate Wells; the transcript records the 2nd and 3rd readings passing 6-0. The motion to accept the water/sewer audit for the fiscal year ending May 31, 2024 was made by Hutcheson, seconded by Wells, and the audit was accepted with no findings.
During the meeting, Councilmember Hutcheson announced that Charles Beaty, a Lake City native killed in the Korean War and accounted for on April 5, 2024, will be buried in Lake City on Nov. 19, 2024 and ‘‘will now receive the burial he deserves’’ per the meeting minutes.
