Residents press council on growth and zoning; Historical Society announces Smithsonian exhibit

During public comment on July 15, property owner Pedra Barrientos asked the council to change zoning on two properties at 1080 S Main Street and 1056 S Main Street from single‑family to multi‑family. Council President Shawn Sizemore asked Barrientos to meet with Town Manager Jonathan Perez so staff can prepare a recommendation; no formal rezoning motion was made at the meeting.
Andrew Preston, representing the Historical Society, told the council that the Smithsonian has chosen Upland as a site for an exhibit running Aug. 22–Oct. 4, 2026, and said the exhibit must be open 30 hours per week and will require volunteers.
Resident Eric Blosser asked developers to "be good neighbors and consider the effect on the neighbors when considering projects," adding, "We need to be asking 'Should we be growing... not can we grow.'" Council members congratulated the Historical Society on securing the exhibit. No ordinance or zoning action occurred during the meeting.
