Tonto Basin Elementary District’s Governing Board on Jan. 21 unanimously authorized its legal counsel to prepare elements for a superintendent search and approved action items from a consensus document, setting a Feb. 9 meeting to consider engaging a consultant.
The decision followed an executive session called under A.R.S. 38-431.03(A)(3) and (4) for legal advice related to the superintendent search. Committee member Wendy moved that legal counsel “put together elements for our Superintendent[s] search” and that those elements be presented for approval at the board’s Feb. 9, 2026 meeting; the motion was seconded by Laci and adopted with an “Aye” vote from the board.
The board then approved, by unanimous vote, the action items identified in the superintendent search consensus document. The second motion was made by Shawna and seconded by Wendy; the board’s minutes record the outcome as “All in favor: Aye.”
The meeting agenda was adopted at the outset after a motion by Robin, seconded by Laci. The special session concluded with a motion to adjourn at 5:28 p.m., carried unanimously.
The meeting minutes do not list individual vote tallies beyond the recorded unanimous supports, nor do they provide additional detail about the consultant selection process or the specific elements counsel was asked to draft; the board scheduled Feb. 9, 2026 for further action on the consultant engagement.
