Hebron committee discusses historic house donation, committee scheduling and safety measures; meeting adjourns

At the Jan. 20 Hebron combined committee meeting, council members reviewed upcoming committee schedules, discussed a local historic‑preservation opportunity and approved a motion to adjourn.

Meeting administrators reported no pending legislation and noted committee meeting dates: the economic development committee is set for Feb. 26 at 3 p.m., and the public works committee is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 17 at 5:00 p.m. A council member requested a safety‑committee meeting to discuss local safety programs.

A council member reported that the owner of what was described at the meeting as the village’s oldest house (identified in the discussion as the John Chill property on Fifth Street) has offered to donate the house so it can be relocated and preserved. Council members discussed that the structure would require relocation from its parcel and substantial restoration work; the plan as discussed was for the village to take the house (not the parcel) and find a permanent location for it.

In committee reports, a council member who attends a county fire board meeting said the board is developing legislation addressing fencing, signage and life‑preserver requirements around retention ponds; the council member suggested proactively installing safety rings and signage in village ponds where appropriate.

A motion to adjourn was made and seconded; roll call returned unanimous "yes" votes and the meeting ended at approximately 6:30 p.m.
