Recent staffing changes and lower-than-expected health-insurance costs account for part of that improvement. Holtz also said district staffing adjustments (including some aides under 32 hours to reduce benefits costs) will contribute savings.
Holtz reported a state voucher reconciliation that currently shows the district's voucher expense about $50,000 higher than what was certified in October. He said the district has contacted the deputy state superintendent to request clarification and to understand any tax-levy implications; the board was told it may affect levy planning but not necessarily cause a penalty.
The board discussed several one-time needs tied to schedule changes (lab supplies, tech-ed materials) and directed administration to include modest budget allowances for these items. The motion to approve the preliminary budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; final adoption remains scheduled for October under board policy.
