At its Oct. 30 special meeting, the Tonto Basin Elementary District board delegated short-term operational authority to maintain payroll and reconciliation while several business-office positions are vacant.
The board authorized the interim superintendent to grant access to district software for employees filling substitute roles during vacancies and approved temporary signing authority for Kathleen Manning on JP Morgan accounts to release payroll files and access bank statements for reconciliation. Trustees discussed drafting job descriptions for vacant roles (business manager, part-time business manager, part-time receptionist/nurse) and said hires will return to the board for approval after posting and review.
Separately, the board approved a correction to the interim superintendent contract date (changed from Oct. 29 to Oct. 27) and recorded several personnel actions. Superintendent Johnny Ketchum told the board he had received a call from the Auditor General asking when the audit would be submitted and seeking more specific responses to audit items; the board scheduled an audit discussion for Nov. 10 with Eugene from Heinfield and Meach to address those questions.
Board members voted unanimously on the delegations and contract correction among members present. The board listed job descriptions and business-office staffing as future agenda items and anticipated additional meetings to meet upcoming deadlines.
Next steps include the interim superintendent enabling system access for temporary staff, adding the JP Morgan signatory as approved, finalizing job descriptions for vacant roles, and preparing audit responses for the Nov. 10 discussion with Heinfield and Meach.
