Donations boost carnival; board schedules community clean-up and work session; public raises volunteer and pay concerns

At the Sept. 8 meeting Ms. Wendy Neil reported several donations and sponsorships supporting the upcoming school carnival, including Western Garage (Michelle and Mark Teason) covering every student's admission. Other donations cited in the minutes included Kiwanis $1,000; the local Chamber $1,000; SRP $1,000 (courtesy of Christa Lambardo-Ploof); and Margaret Rambo $500. The carnival will include a raffle and auctioned fire pits.
The board set the date for a community clean-up for Oct. 17 after a motion by Ms. Robin Holt and a second from Ms. Wendy Neil; the motion passed unanimously. Ms. Neil also announced a staff work session to address creating a healthy working environment, scheduled for Sept. 23 at 3:00 p.m.
During non-agenda public comment, Billie Menefee updated the board on a new gazebo roof and organizing volunteers for the community clean-up, and said she shared her wage spreadsheet with Mr. Sterling Thomas while raising concerns about pay differences between Hana White and Dusti Cox-Robinson. Michelle Cooper urged more community volunteer involvement, said volunteers do not need fingerprint clearance cards, and suggested the board consider budgeting to help cover fingerprinting costs for volunteers; she asked for that item to be added to a future agenda.
The board did not take an immediate action on fingerprinting or pay-structure requests at this meeting; public commenters requested future consideration.
