After an executive session on April 6 to discuss staffing in a village department, Mayor Paul Labas told the Granville Village Board that members concluded it was necessary to eliminate positions associated with the Village Justice Court to reduce costs.
Mayor Labas said the court has generated approximately $9,000–$10,000 in revenue over the past three to four years while court salaries and contractual expenses cost about $24,000. The board directed Village Attorney Michael Martin to draft a resolution to eliminate the positions for consideration at the board’s May meeting and authorized the Clerk-Treasurer to advertise a public hearing on the proposed resolution.
The executive session was attended in full by the Village Attorney; the Police Chief joined the board from 7:40–8:10 p.m., according to the meeting record. No formal resolution was adopted on April 6 — the item will be presented for public hearing and board action in May.
