Patagonia committee: Phase 2 of regional flood-control study suspended over funding; benefits agreement drafted

Allan Sanchez, presenting to the Sonoita Creek Flood and Flow Study Committee, said Phase 2 of the Patagonia Regional Flood Control Project feasibility study has been suspended because of insufficient funds. He told the committee a Community Benefits & Protections agreement is being worked on, that the amount is “critical,” and that funding is expected to be available between January and July.

The update was given under the committee’s Old Business agenda item on Nov. 13, 2025. Committee members did not vote on project funding at the meeting; the item was recorded as an update and an action item for follow-up. The committee’s role is advisory to the Patagonia Town Council and the presentation focused on next steps pending funding availability.

Committee members emphasized the need to align study progress with funding timelines so that design and mitigation options remain viable once funds are secured. No fiscal amounts or specific fund sources were provided in the update; the committee noted only a projected window (January–July) when funds may be available.
