Granville board approves $103,140 in claims, authorizes budget transfers, hires DPW laborer and OKs community coin drops

At its Feb. 2 meeting the Granville Village Board approved $103,140.76 in claims, authorized intra-fund transfers to prevent line-item overdrafts, approved two coin-drop events, accepted a new fire-company member and unanimously hired Colby Hayes as a full-time DPW laborer at $20/hour.
The Granville Village Board on Feb. 2 approved claims totaling $103,140.76 and authorized transfers within the General and Water funds to prevent line‑item overdrafts.
Clerk-Treasurer Rick Roberts presented the claims and the Board audited them. Trustee Heather Leaman moved payment of the claims; Trustee Paul Garrone seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The claims covered the General Fund ($58,162.76), Water Fund ($13,374.43), Sewer Fund ($21,558.39), Senior Shuttle ($1,764.21) and unaudited vouchers ($8,280.97), for a grand total of $103,140.76.
Roberts also circulated a memo recommending transfers to cure shortfalls ahead of this evening’s appropriations: General Fund transfers included +$700 to A51102 (DPW Equipment) and +$9,300 to A95509 (Capital Projects) with a -$10,000 offset from the unreserved/unappropriated balance; Water Fund adjustments moved $2,750 to source power pump charges with an offset from health insurance premiums. Trustee Denise Davies moved approval of the transfers; Trustee Paul Garrone seconded and the board approved them unanimously.
Community fundraising events were approved: the Granville Area Food Pantry will hold a coin drop June 27 (alternate in July) following a motion moved by Trustee Dean Hyatt and seconded by Trustee Denise Davies; Haynes House of Hope was approved for Sept. 12 with a rain date of Nov. 19 after a motion moved by Deputy Mayor Dean Hyatt and seconded by Trustee Heather Leaman.
Personnel and membership actions: Fire Chief Michael Zinn recommended Lexyss Zovistoski for membership in Granville Engine & Hose Co. #1; Deputy Mayor Dean Hyatt moved acceptance and Trustee Denise Davies seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. The Board then convened an executive session on contract negotiations and a candidate for the open DPW laborer position. After returning to open session, Trustee Dean Hyatt moved to hire Colby Hayes as a full-time DPW laborer at $20 per hour; Trustee Denise Davies seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The Board also scheduled a budget workshop to review the draft 2026–27 Village budget for Thursday, Feb. 25 at 6:00 p.m. There were no public comments during the meeting and the session adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Actions taken at the Feb. 2 meeting will be reflected in forthcoming minutes and any contract awards related to procurement or capital projects will be considered in later meetings when bid evaluations and staff recommendations are complete.
