Council honors municipal courts, LISC, Dynamo and Houston Olympian in ceremonial proclamations

The Houston City Council used the opening portion of its Oct. 30 session for ceremonial proclamations recognizing several city partners and local achievements.
The mayor proclaimed November 4–8, 2024, Municipal Courts Week and praised the Municipal Courts Department for outreach programs including Teen Court and public education initiatives. The council also presented a proclamation to Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) celebrating 35 years of investment in Houston neighborhoods; LISC’s local executive director invited the council and public to an anniversary event and noted multi‑decade local investments.
The mayor proclaimed Nov. 1, 2024, Dynamo Day to build enthusiasm for the team’s playoff appearance; Dynamo representatives and team supporters joined the meeting and thanked the council. The council also recognized Jeffrey “B‑Boy Jeffro” Lewis for representing the United States in Olympic breaking and declared a day in his honor. Lewis said he was proud to represent Houston and thanked his family, telling the council, “I’m a product of my city.”
These ceremonial recognitions were nonbinding and intended to highlight local organizations’ community contributions and celebrate cultural and sporting achievements.
