Superintendent reports on maintenance, shelter nearing completion; board approves claims and adjusts event permit process

The Memorial Park Board heard staff reports on operations, reservations and facility projects and approved routine claims presented during the meeting.
Superintendent Kate reported routine operations and maintenance: a new office computer after an extended outage, pond aerators returned to service and targeted algae treatment, tree clearing near power lines done by grounds crew and temporary coverage while a park ranger was unavailable. "I have a new computer and I've brought it to the meeting," Kate said while summarizing maintenance and staffing updates.
Secretary Liz gave the monthly finance and reservations update, reporting modest receipts for May: "reservations, firewood and vendors, that was $480," she said; she also said the park had received $587 in fireworks donations and about $1,600 in reservation credits. Liz described a newly drafted special-events permit form prepared with staff to require vendor certificates of insurance and to limit the county’s liability.
The board approved the presented claims by voice vote. Staff also said the Joe Sanders Jr. Family Shelter is about 95% complete with a donor rededication planned for June 27; RMC agreed to donate utility poles and a donor pledged three native trees for planting.
County contacts reported $40,000 allocated to make urgent repairs to the 4H arena (spray-foam insulation, roof coating, plumbing and restroom fixtures) to ready the building for the upcoming fair. Park staff said work could begin immediately and that some short-term band-aid repairs are planned so the building is usable for events.
Board members also discussed ongoing grant work on a larger capital project (OCHRE grant), with RFQs/RFPs and general-contractor selection targeted by mid-August and grant completion expected in spring 2027, contingent on water/sewer coordination.
Staff will circulate the special-events permit template to the board and continue safety coordination for Fourth of July events.
