The Mentone Town Council rejected a proposed Salary Ordinance (26-488) and directed staff to return with a rewritten, restructured ordinance that includes employee classifications.
Council members said the presented draft contained numerous inconsistencies with the employee handbook and other errors. Councilor Jill Gross moved to reject the 11-page salary ordinance and revert to the prior two-page ordinance while including classifications for all employees; the motion carried. Separately, Resolution 2026-05 (adopting the revised employee handbook) was introduced but tabled for further review.
Council assigned Councilor Amanda Yaprak to revise the salary ordinance and reformat it so the ordinance and handbook align; revised drafts will be brought back for council consideration before any new pay or classification schedule is adopted.
