New Castle board hears facilities updates, accepts donation and voids stale checks

District facilities staff reported that NCHS restrooms are under renovation and multipurpose restrooms are nearing completion; the fieldhouse scoreboard is undergoing electrical work while the district awaits response from a second engineer. Administrators also said the district is seeking bus drivers to address transportation needs.
Superintendent Matthew Shoemaker highlighted personnel and program notes: the retirement of instructional assistant Janet Schmeisser after 14½ years, multiple school events and athletic milestones, and the naming of NCHS student Aubrey Lapp as a Lilly Scholar. The minutes record a $1,500 donation from Citizens State Bank to support the NCMS girls basketball program.
On budget business, the board received the monthly transfer report from the Education Fund for December 2025 and approved a motion to void stale-dated checks; Josh Estelle moved, Jamey Marcum seconded, and the motion carried 5-0.
During public questions and comments, Jennifer McGowan thanked Dr. Shoemaker for work on the TAG Grant. With no further business the board adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
